Reactions

Defend with your weapon by rolling its attack roll. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's. Availability depends on weapon match-up (tap/hover).
Clash with the attacker using the same roll you would use to Defend. The higher Outcome (not contested) is treated as the result of a successful, undefended attack roll against the loser.

Desperate Defense

If you have already used your Action, you may Exert your Mind to perform a Reaction. Your next Round's Action receives a -2 dice penalty. You cannot Clash as a Desperate Defense.

An Outcome of 1 or greater will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
Complete success (Outcome 4+) puts the Injury on track to heal clean: its Battle Scar heals with it.
Failed attempts can be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.
On a Botch, the Injury's Severity increases by 1.

Makeshift Stabilization

Attempt a major treatment using insufficient or improvised medical equipment.

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty > Severity

Any positive Outcome (1+) will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
However, any Outcome less than 4 increases the Injury’s Severity by 1. Botches also worsen its Battle Scar.

Biography

Constantine spent years of his life studying medicine to become a surgeon and was successful. He enjoyed a nice, comfy career and lifestyle until he suffered an accident leaving him with brain damage that rendered him mute. Due to his disability hospitals didn't want to take the risk in hiring him and having to accommodate his needs. Bitter and angry Constantine turned to crime and specifically those who dabbled in it. He became a criminal surgeon under the alias Xander, patching up and healing those who couldn't go to hospitals without consequence. He might not be as comfortable as he once was but access to medical information, supplies, and contact with the local crime syndicate keeps him busy and well off.
However since his accident something has always worried him and lingered in the background, his own mortality. It is why he accepted to participate in these contracts, and why he will do everything he can to become immortal.
