Actions

Attack with your weapon or hands.
Evade by rolling to Defend or Dodge. Your Outcome is "spent" to reduce the Outcome of any incoming attacks until your next Action.
Activate a Power or use an Ability as normal.
Hold your Action by declaring an Action and a triggering event. If the event occurs before your turn on the next Round, you perform the Action.

If you have not yet spent your Action this Round, you may use it as a Reaction.

Reactions

Dodge by rolling Dexterity + Athletics ( dice) Difficulty 6. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's.
Defend with your weapon by rolling its attack roll. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's. Availability depends on weapon match-up (tap/hover).
Clash with the attacker using the same roll you would use to Defend. The higher Outcome (not contested) is treated as the result of a successful, undefended attack roll against the loser.

Desperate Defense

If you have already used your Action, you may Exert your Mind to perform a Reaction. Your next Round's Action receives a -2 dice penalty. You cannot Clash as a Desperate Defense.

Will to Survive

Once per Contract, you may reduce the severity of an incoming Injury up to 4 Severity levels (to a minimum of Severity 4). You take a point of Mind damage and suffer a Major Battle Scar that lingers after the Injury is healed, even with proper Stabilization.

If an attack's Outcome is positive after defense, it results in a new Injury with Severity = Outcome + Weapon damage - Armor

Proper Stabilization

Requires an advanced first aid kit for Severity 4 Injuries, a field surgery kit for Severity 5 Injuries, and a surgery theater for Severity 6+ Injuries.

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty equal to Severity

An Outcome of 1 or greater will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
Complete success (Outcome 4+) puts the Injury on track to heal clean: its Battle Scar heals with it.
Failed attempts can be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.
On a Botch, the Injury's Severity increases by 1.

Makeshift Stabilization

Attempt a major treatment using insufficient or improvised medical equipment.

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty > Severity

(Difficulty based on materials and tactics used)

Any positive Outcome (1+) will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
However, any Outcome less than 4 increases the Injury’s Severity by 1. Botches also worsen its Battle Scar.
Regardless of Outcome, any Battle Scars caused by the Injury will persist after it is fully healed.
Failed attempts can be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.

Self-stabilization attempts are rolled at +1 Difficulty.

Biography

Mateo Santana is a gun nut who grew up in a poor and dangerous area in East LA at a time where the police didn't care to, nor did they try, to curb crime, gangs were a normal sight, gunfights were a common occurrence, drugs were everywhere, and life was as cheap as can be.

He tried his best to get an education to get himself and hopefully his single mother out of there however where he didn't fail due to his low intelligence he failed due to prejudice, there was one area he never sucked in though, firearms, hell he know more about how an IMI Uzi worked than he did about any subject that was taught in school.

Unfortunately a GED holding dime-a-dozen hood Hispanic didn't look too appealing to any college, so actually taking advantage of any knowledge he knew about guns beyond recreational use and self defense was pretty worthless, he got stuck clerking at the local liquor store.

He stayed positive though he always believed it was how you handled the situation was the measure of a person, never the situation.

And then his Mom got killed for $30 bucks and half a pack of cigarettes by a mugger.

He was depressed, angry, full of hate to whatever powers at be that created this miserable hell-hole of a life, desperately wanting to change it.

But how could he? He's only human.
