Clash with the attacker using the same roll you would use to Defend. The higher Outcome (not contested) is treated as the result of a successful, undefended attack roll against the loser.

Desperate Defense

An Outcome of 1 or greater will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
Complete success (Outcome 4+) puts the Injury on track to heal clean: its Battle Scar heals with it.
Failed attempts can be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.
On a Botch, the Injury's Severity increases by 1.

Makeshift Stabilization

Attempt a major treatment using insufficient or improvised medical equipment.

If you don't wake up in time, you will hear the “click” of a hammer pulled back, & feel the barrel of the dueling pistol pressed over your heart... Anytime you sleep on Contract or Sidegame, roll 1d10 – on a “1” you will need to roll Body (DC: 8). A success sees you waking up just in tiume – you suffer 1 Mind damage & will not be able to sleep for the next 12 hours. If you fail, you suffer a Severity 4 Injury in the form of a Sudden Heart Attack, & cannot sleep as above. On a Botch, add the number of “1s” rolled to the Severity of the Heart Attack injury.

Life's been pretty boring since I made it big. Sure it's nice and comfortable, I've got the money, and the cars, and the girls, and the nice house. But I miss the chase, the thrill, the danger. It all came down to one final job, one escape from a bank robbery which I executed flawlessly, then suddenly I was rich. Life was boring and I had nothing to worry about.
