Movement

Movement is taken immediately before OR after your Action. It cannot be split.

- Dashing penalizes your Action -1 die per 5 feet.
All-out Sprint: instead of using free Movement or Dash, you may spend your Action and roll Brawn + Athletics ( dice) Difficulty 6. You move (0 + (Outcome x 5) Feet).

Actions

Attack with your weapon or hands.
Evade by rolling to Defend or Dodge. Your Outcome is "spent" to reduce the Outcome of any incoming attacks until your next Action.
Activate a Power or use an Ability as normal.
Hold your Action by declaring an Action and a triggering event. If the event occurs before your turn on the next Round, you perform the Action.

If you have not yet spent your Action this Round, you may use it as a Reaction.

Reactions

Dodge by rolling Dexterity + Athletics ( dice) Difficulty 6. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's.
Defend with your weapon by rolling its attack roll. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's. Availability depends on weapon match-up (tap/hover).
Clash with the attacker using the same roll you would use to Defend. The higher Outcome (not contested) is treated as the result of a successful, undefended attack roll against the loser.

Desperate Defense

If you have already used your Action, you may Exert your Mind to perform a Reaction. Your next Round's Action receives a -2 dice penalty. You cannot Clash as a Desperate Defense.

Will to Survive

Once per Contract, you may reduce the severity of an incoming Injury up to 4 Severity levels (to a minimum of Severity 4). You take a point of Mind damage and suffer a Major Battle Scar that lingers after the Injury is healed, even with proper Stabilization.

If an attack's Outcome is positive after defense, it results in a new Injury with Severity = Outcome + Weapon damage - Armor

Complete success (Outcome 4+) puts the Injury on track to heal clean: its Battle Scar heals with it.
Failed attempts can be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.
On a Botch, the Injury's Severity increases by 1.

Makeshift Stabilization

Attempt a major treatment using insufficient or improvised medical equipment.

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty > Severity

Any positive Outcome (1+) will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
However, any Outcome less than 4 increases the Injury’s Severity by 1. Botches also worsen its Battle Scar.
Regardless of Outcome, any Battle Scars caused by the Injury will persist after it is fully healed.
Failed attempts can be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.

Self-stabilization attempts are rolled at +1 Difficulty.

Biography

Jacque Claude Moreau or J lives in the mountains of Le Houches, France in his vista with his dog Tidbit. The immaculate landscape is used as the basis for his paintings which depict wind, nature, the rain, clouds, fire, life.

He lives as a hermit, makes very few outside connections and lives completely separated from technology as a whole. Although the strange artist doesn't speak much, it's said his paintings speak thousands of words. And although the artist cannot see, his paintings showcase life with a sight one cannot imagine.

His works can be found in places where eccentric billionaires laugh and recount their past. As a world renown artist, his paintings are said to evoke the feelings of life so deeply, it's almost looking into a portal or window to another world.

This odd artist frequently travels to Japan, and stays for long periods of time. This has always been seen by the media as a way for him to regather himself, or look for sources of inspiration.

In actuality he's a fucking samurai. His sensei is master Orichi, who he has been seeing for over 20 years.

J is training, for his ultimate goal is to master the spirits of life. With this harnessed energy he can then raise them to contact and wake from their slumber the old one, the slumbering ancient creator. The one who will wake up and bring humanity back to their true home.
