Charlatans

Nowadays you can't go a day without some phony prophet trying to peddle their wares to you.
Driven by the increased interest in the supernatural, charlatans from palm readers to televangelists are everywhere. And while the vast majority of witches, psychics, magicians, hypnotists, cures, potions, faith healers, and clairvoyants are complete fakes, they do make a living.
As the saying goes, "it's easier for an actor to make it in alternative medicine than Hollywood."
Most people scoff at these clearly-phony supernatural services, yet those same people often buy into at least one scam.
The most dangerous charlatans are the self-styled monster hunters who carry a mall-ninja arsenal and guns with silver bullets. Most have never encountered anything supernatural and do absolutely nothing besides burn some sage and patrol the area for a night or two. Even so, those who are superstitious, fearful, or desperate enough will hire them to solve the problems they simply don't understand. In some cases with disastrous results.
For Contractors, charlatans are red herrings and obstacles. Clumsy fakes that conjure a smokescreen of misinformation and escalate the situations they're in.

Penny always loved murder mystery, and the irony of that fact is not lost on her. Now that she has become the ultimate murder mystery, she realizes that the powers gained from these jobs can use them to fulfill her detective fantasies, buy looking over the patient with the eyes of a doctor and mortician, but with her own superior reasoning skills.

- You receive trace particles and regional forensic traces, allowing you to discern where this object has recently been.

Ability to scry on an object
Bill is an avid investigator. He has spent his career hunting the next big lead. As he has begun writing the stories of the supernatural he has started to manifest abilities. His book "The Drawing of Spirits" seems to drain the readers of their curiosity and feed it to Bill. He has been granted the ability to see people in the objects that have had pass interactions with. Bill just needs to hold the object and open his mind to aether. As Bill manifests his power his eyes go completely white, as if his pupils don't exist. He can learn who has interacted with the object.
Exert your Mind and spend a minute. Select a target Object within arm's reach. At the end of your investigation, roll Perception + Alertness at Difficulty 6.
You learn all the following information about your target:
- Determine if this target is Alien in origin or whether it has any Alien energy or outside influences. You receive information about the type of energy, including the name of the relevant Source pool or equivalent.
- You receive a visual description telling you who has used this object recently.
You cannot investigate the same target more than once per day.
- You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
- Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

- Determine if this target is Alien in origin or whether it has any Alien energy or outside influences. You receive information about the type of energy, including the name of the relevant Source pool or equivalent.
- You learn the object's intended function and how to use it for its intended purpose, though not necessarily the ability to do so.
Anyone who witnesses you during this Effect's activation will almost certainly be disturbed to see rotten tentacles spread out of his arm and wrap around the object.
This Gift's Cost is capped at 2 and cannot be increased further.
- When narrating disturbing content, be cognizant of your group's tone and accommodating to those who would like to "fast forward" through the description.
- You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
- Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

This Gift cannot have more than 3 Drawbacks, and its Gift Cost is capped at 1.

Her greed knows no bounds.
The Thief examines an object closely for a minute to appraise its value. As their eyes dance across the subject, their pupils split vertically, and their irises fade to gold. If it is a particularly valuable item, the Thief may greedily lick their lips, revealing a forked tongue.
Within a minute, they have determined how materially valuable the object is and why.
