William Delphine's Questionnaire

1. What town or city do you live in? Why do you live there instead of anywhere else? Describe your home.

William currently lives in a studio apartment on the outskirts of Phoenix Arizona, above his family's bike shop. As the last of his family, William had committed to keeping it running with the help of a life-long friend, Sven "Scav" McMillan. After his dad's death left him grieving and lost, Sven would run the shop and seek desperately to help William come back to the world of motocross, but was unsuccessful. William would stay here until he faded away if it wasn't for his nightmarish visions, driving him to seek answers and to prevent the terrible fate within. He comes back from time to time, getting his bike fixed up and to check in with Sven.

2. How do you get your money right now? What do you spend it on?

William's earnings come from his shop, with him taking the owner's cut each month. It's not a lot of money but it allows him to take excursions chasing the targets of his supernatural visions. Sven, his life long friend, keeps the shop running and tends to his bike when he returns home. Customer's are not as common, but there is a loyal clientele who knew both William and his father. He needs to come home to get his income, and will not receive anything if the time does not allow. Sven has limited contact with William while out in the field, and cannot generally send him any assistance financially. He's got a family to feed, after all.

3. Describe your Ambition. What are you striving for? How far would you go to achieve this? Would you kill for it? How close to death would you come for it?

William chases the will of the flame from his nightmares. It offers hope from the coming ruin, and demands his assistance for the aid it gave his father. Despite the coercive nature, William does agree with the need for intervention, at least for the time being. Unaware of the overarching goals or motivation behind the flame's brief mental imprints, he seeks to find the locations and meaning behind his dreams, and the reasons he is given them. He has seen the terrible, apocalyptic nightmares the flame has shown him will come to pass, and will fight to stop them from happening, regardless of what he has to do. Killing is not his motivation, but he will do what is needed, whatever the cost.

4. What was the most defining event of your life (before signing The Contract), and how did it change you?

Link Answered before William Delphine's first Contract.

William found himself facing the Contract after he sent a plea into the universe to cure his father's abrupt cancer. Having had his father as his only parent for most of his life, since the age of 6, losing him to cancer was not acceptable. Exhausting his amassed winnings from his motocross championships and sponsors, all hope seemed lost until he was answered by what he would come to know as The Flame. In a dream one night, he was offered a bargain, the details of which were left open with only the benefit of his father being cured offered. William accepted without a second thought, and within the following week his father's cancer had completely went into remission. The regained time was tragically cut short when during a local motocross meet, his father's first in years, a freak accident caused a competitors bike to fly off the track and crush William's father into the stands.

5. Name and briefly describe three people in your life. One must be the person you are closest to.

Clint Delphine - William's late father. Clint was an accomplished auto engineer, specializing in motorcycles. He started up a repair shop and motocross supply store in the outskirts of Phoenix Arizona. When William was born, Clint and his wife, Esther, focused on raising him as a strong and kind soul, always giving him love and support. Esther passed away abruptly when William was only 6, dying in her sleep from a seizure from an un-diagnosed brain tumor.

Sven "Scav" McMilin - William's life long friend. William and Sven met when they were young boys when Sven and his family came to the repair shop. Sven and William hit it off, both boys enjoying motorcycles and motocross. Sven would come to be William's second biggest supporter once he hit the motocross scene, also taking up a spot at the repair shop as an employee. Sven and his family, Sasha, his wife, and daughter, Evelyn, live nearby the shop and are William's only remaining family.

6. How was your childhood? Who were your parents? What were they like? Did you attend school? If so, did you fit in? If not, why not?

Link Answered after Contract 1, Midday Traffic

Will's childhood was pretty standard. Outside of getting into auto mechanics at a young age and spending his free time at the track, he spent his youth as any other boy would have. School was tough to focus on as his mind was always back at the track or in the shop with his dad, so grades were always middling. After he graduated High School, William opted to continue his dirt track circuit dreams, and helping run the family store.

His dad was always trying to impose on William the importance of self reliance and justice. "Be the bigger man, William. Don't throw the first punch, but be willing to throw the last one if someone needs you to." Words that William would take to heart, ensuring that no matter where he found himself, whether at the track or around his travels, he would always step in when he was needed to end a situation that had gotten out of hand.

7. Have you ever been in love? With who? What happened? If not, why not?

William found little chance or want to chase romance. Being at the track and with his head in a gearbox somewhere, he never had the time. Or, he would muse, maybe the grease and dirt scared all the potential ladies away. His pal Sven always said that if he didn't look like a tar monster fresh from the swamp, Will would clean up nicely. No, instead, Will opted to perfect his craft and chase his dream alongside his father this devotion to the track and the craft of racing has made him near peerless in his skill behind the controls of most bikes and motor vehicles alike.

8. What are your worst fears? Why?

Link Answered after Contract 2, It’s in the Bag!

William's fear is not doing enough when he could have. Knowing that something went wrong or someone got hurt due to his own inaction keeps him up at night with thoughts of what he could have done different. Much more than this, if something he did actively causes harm to the innocent or undeserving of it. He may be quick to temper towards those he deems as bullies or villains, but he tries to keep it in check until he knows for sure. Losing his father despite what he accepted in that dream, or other world as he thinks of it, has also been a sticking point in his thoughts. What he thought was a sacrifice for someone else turned into vain servitude as suddenly as he'd made the choice. Under all his brooding regret and resentment, there is the fear that what he's becoming might now harm those he cares about most, or worse, those who have nothing to do with his initial plan. Taking other's down with him when the cards hit the table, that's something he cannot afford. So, caution, maybe too much nowadays, are his current goal. At least until he can claim control back over his life.

9. What is (are) your most prized possession(s)? What makes it (them) so special?

Link Answered after Contract 2, It’s in the Bag!

William has a couple possessions that he cares deeply about. Firstly, and most importantly, is his dad's bike, a 1946 Davidson Knucklehead. Though it holds the name of the 46 model, the Delphine family has restored and even improved on the nearly century's old bike to modern standards. Whenever William hits the road, this is his mode of choice. With the growl of the engine and the wind against his helmet, it feels like he's back with his old man, traveling like they used to when heading to a track meet. The next, though its seen better days, is his dark brown leather jacket emblazoned with the Delphine Motor Services logo, a stylized motorcycle wheel with fiery wings framed on a sunrise. It was meant to represent  new beginnings when his parents settled down, with the Delphine love of motorcycling at its core. Simple  but deeply held items for William that he cherishes more as remembrances of his family than any personal idolization.

10. What is the biggest problem in your life right now?

Link Answered after Contract 3, The Demon Cabinet of Mr Long

William's biggest problem in his life is balancing his job with the new Contracts he is being pulled into. Sven is capable at holding down the shop for the most part, but putting all of that weight on his shoulders is weighing more on William than he'd like. Sven has a family to take care of, to spend time with, and William wants nothing more than to make sure he can be the father and husband his family needs without taking on William's own slack. The contracts are interesting, and seem to be giving more insight into his destiny standing against the demonic incursion, but he would rather it only take the effort from him, not those he cares about. The shop runs smoothly when William can take on the work, and its a blessing that he can forget momentarily about the insidious world he knows runs just beneath the surface.

11. Describe a typical morning. How do you get ready to face the world?

Link Answered after Contract 3, The Demon Cabinet of Mr Long

William does not have a normal morning schedule. With his dreams giving him terrible sleep patterns, he tends to wake up around noon. After a strong pot of coffee, he heads down to the shop's office to talk with Sven and get the scoop on the upcoming shop schedule. He starts work as soon as he can, since he wants to make sure his family's shop keeps on running. On day's that he is not working, his morning, or equivalent, is spent getting his bike ready to go for a day's long ride. Setting out normally during the heat of the day helps him wake up and gives him plenty of time to think on his dreams and the gifts he's been given. Now, after his fight in Chinatown, he starts more mornings working out the stiff arm that was injured, the obsidian glass flexing oddly like scar tissue as he goes through his workout routine.
