Barbara Pythia's Questionnaire

1. What town or city do you live in? Why do you live there instead of anywhere else? Describe your home.

The spirits of the fates guided me to Delphi, and to be honest this one is closer than Greece, and I don't have to emigrate to another country or learn a new language. They're not happy about it, but they can't do much about it either, so they seem contented for now. I'm sure they will weave their plans for my destiny into the tapestry here until they force me to go there. They do love to test you, and they don't let up just because it wasn't possible to move you into their initial sights, in fact they often use a bigger gun when that's the case. So there's that...

2. How do you get your money right now? What do you spend it on?

Well, having been an intelligence officer, you learn to prepare for the unexpected, so I already had a nest egg. Also, not having eyes any longer made it easy to get on social security disability, and various other assistance programs since I worked for the state during the time of the incident. I spend my money wisely, I don't splurge ever. If I get into that habit what I saved won't last long. It's harder to look over the books now, or anything else for that matter, but I am procuring equipment to make it easier, after that I will probably start a consulting business. Private sector, but my credentials will still apply.

3. Describe your Ambition. What are you striving for? How far would you go to achieve this? Would you kill for it? How close to death would you come for it?

Everybody wants to rule the world, right? I've seen more about the way the world really works than most people with sight could ever imagine. Why the hell should those short-sighted politicians get to commit whatever crimes they want as flagrantly as they please and get away with it? It's not a matter of ego, or pride, but pragmaticism. Some people simply are better in the driver's seat than others, and I would be better than anyone currently in control. That's just the facts of the matter. I could go into specifics, but it's gotten to the point that it simply goes without saying anymore the moment you take even a passing glance at the political affairs of this laughing stock of a nation.

4. What was the most defining event of your life (before signing The Contract), and how did it change you?

Listen, I know I don't have eyes, but you can tell by the look I'm shooting you that you couldn't possibly expect me to take that question seriously. I haven't even been fitted with glass replacements yet, and already my life will not ever be the same. I've adapted quickly to learning Braille, but I can't see anymore. Braille keyboards, Braille displays, screen readers, and more just to make my old job even vaguely possible, and I still will never be able to match the speed in which I could do my work as I could when I was sighted. That's the most insulting question conceivable.

5. Name and briefly describe three people in your life. One must be the person you are closest to.

I can't believe I'm still speaking with you after that last one...

My old colleague Richard, he was the field intelligence agent that was most often sent to utilize my work. I've never met anyone more omnicompetent than that man. Reading his field reports was like reading a Heinlein novel. I miss no one more from my old life, if I had to be honest.

My father James, retired police detective. Gave me the foundations of piecing together evidence that saw me well through my service in intelligence, helped me rise through the ranks by giving me a head start my college degree couldn't have on it's own. I owe him so much of my success, and now it's for nothing.

Dinah, she's quickly becoming indispensable and a true friend. We were already friendly colleagues before, and I knew she had recovered from mutism, but after the incident she reached out to me to help me adjust.
