Dolan grew up in a small town in the Midwest of the USA. He hated even the small population there, and as technology began to develop and be more widely used, he escaped into the countryside along with his then-girlfriend. There, he built his own cottage in the woods and lived happily in mostly isolation. The cottage was built into a cliff face and from it extended a long staircase of 20 feet to the ground.
He lived with only a minimal amount of technology and interaction with civilization, and did well for himself with the inheritance from his dead parents. He didn't have to work to make money, so he could buy the few supplies couldn't get or grow himself.
What little money he makes for himself is from selling farm goods to the nearest village. He made the trip of nearly 80 miles in a old pickup truck once every two weeks. He sold eggs, fresh milk, and would offer to work on people's cars, trucks, and other machines if asked. But he refused to work on any vehicle with a computer in it.
The rest of his money comes from an account left to him by his parents. He only skims the yearly interest off so as not to reduce the amount he would get. He doesn't want to become reliant on civilization again.
Dolan has watched as technology has corrupted a once-simple world, turned people against each other, and weakened people's minds and skills. He wants nothing more than for all computers to be eliminated from use.
While he is not willing to die for this task or cause excessive violence, he will try his damnedest to convince others of his beliefs. That is, if he can even get himself to talk at all. Talking to people has always been his own weakest skill. So he often finds himself growing more and more frustrated and silent as technology becomes more widely used.
In the case of humans replacing important things such as conversation with loved ones, or control of their own live with technology, he may become angry to the point of killing someone.
When Dolan's parents died in a horrific plane accident, he inherited all of their wealth into an account he could not yet access at a young age. So, gritting his teeth, he worked a factory job at the age of 16 until he could afford to move himself to the countryside along with his girlfriend. After a few more years, he was able start withdrawing money. He made sure to only withdraw the interest made every month.
The death of his parents got him out of having to inherit the business which was a good thing, and the damage of losing his parents wasn't that great. They never had time to take care of him anyway..
