Actions

Attack with your weapon or hands.
Evade by rolling to Defend or Dodge. Your Outcome is "spent" to reduce the Outcome of any incoming attacks until your next Action.
Activate a Power or use an Ability as normal.
Hold your Action by declaring an Action and a triggering event. If the event occurs before your turn on the next Round, you perform the Action.

Reactions

Dodge by rolling Dexterity + Athletics ( dice) Difficulty 6. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's.
Defend with your weapon by rolling its attack roll. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's. Availability depends on weapon match-up (tap/hover).
Clash with the attacker using the same roll you would use to Defend. The higher Outcome (not contested) is treated as the result of a successful, undefended attack roll against the loser.

Desperate Defense

If you have already used your Action, you may Exert your Mind to perform a Reaction. Your next Round's Action receives a -2 dice penalty. You cannot Clash as a Desperate Defense.

Will to Survive

Once per Contract, you may reduce the severity of an incoming Injury up to 4 Severity levels (to a minimum of Severity 4). You take a point of Mind damage and suffer a Major Battle Scar that lingers after the Injury is healed, even with proper Stabilization.

If an attack's Outcome is positive after defense, it results in a new Injury with Severity = Outcome + Weapon damage - Armor

Complete success (Outcome 4+) puts the Injury on track to heal clean: its Battle Scar heals with it.
Failed attempts can be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.
On a Botch, the Injury's Severity increases by 1.

Makeshift Stabilization

Attempt a major treatment using insufficient or improvised medical equipment.

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty > Severity

Any positive Outcome (1+) will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
However, any Outcome less than 4 increases the Injury’s Severity by 1. Botches also worsen its Battle Scar.
Regardless of Outcome, any Battle Scars caused by the Injury will persist after it is fully healed.
Failed attempts can be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.

Self-stabilization attempts are rolled at +1 Difficulty.

Biography

Born in New York City to Erina Fillion and Arthur Fillion, Ethan was an unexpected pregnancy that resulted in his mother abandoning her degree to take care of him full time. When Ethan was 6, shortly after the birth of his baby sister Penelope, his father "Art" was killed in a head-on collision whilst returning from work.

In the ensuing whirlwind of emotions, insurance payouts and long quiet nights, his family travelled cross country to just outside Detroit, Michigan to live nearby his maternal grandmother, a retiree, and uncle, a mechanic. Since this event, Ethan and his family are living paycheck to paycheck afforded by the multiple jobs that his mother works.

Ethan himself struggled with school, often distracted and left feeling like he was missing something he left education with a barely passing mark and continued into work in various odd jobs earning what he could.

In the meantime, he landed a fair boon when a run-down dirt bike was rolled into his uncle's shop, the owner dropping it outside of his business without a note or word. Ethan's uncle held the bike in storage for a long while but eventually relented and offered it to Ethan after it was clear nobody was coming to retrieve it.

Over the years since then, Ethan has worked on and fixed up the bike he came to call Ezra (after an old school friend before he moved). Being taught by his uncle the basic mechanics and internals of the machine, he replaced and repaired parts in the bike until it reached a state where it reliably didn't breakdown whilst riding, an incident that left him a "gnarly" scar across his lips.

His ultimate goal is to become a famous rally racer to lift himself and his family out of the apartment block he has called home for over a decade, but he secretly wishes to rid his neighbourhood of a particularly nasty and insidious gang that claims his town as their territory.
