Searing Retribution
A magic word is spoken from an ancient book in a forgotten dialect, and a magical, shimmering barrier of force surrounds the caster.
Exert your Mind and spend an Action or Reaction. You must actively and obviously use An Ancient Atlantian Grimoire held in one hand and used as a spell book to activate this Effect. Roll Intellect + Occult at Difficulty 6.
If you succeed, you create a barrier around yourself, which absorbs the next Outcome + 4 Damage. Any Damage absorbed by the barrier is reflected back to the attacker, up to a maximum of the Barrier Strength Parameter’s bonus. Their Armor applies in full. The Damage reduction from the barrier is applied before Armor. You may only have 1 active barrier at a time.
You must maintain Concentration while using this Effect. The barrier will fall if you are interrupted, or if it absorbs the full amount of Damage. When a barrier falls, you cannot use this Effect again for a minimum of 2 Rounds.
- If you use this Effect as a Reaction to dodge, you still need to make a roll to dodge. The Effect will occur regardless of the Outcome of this roll, but if you fail you will be hit by the relevant attack prior to the Effect occurring.

OWL - The Occult Wildlife Landing
The Occult Wildlife Landing (OWL) is a nonprofit organization that advocates for the rights of supernatural creatures to live a life unmolested by humanity’s relentless spread and greed.
While OWL has become the de-facto head of the conservationist movement in the United States, many claim it’s not as innocent as it appears. A number of small, seemingly-disconnected terrorist cells wear the OWL insignia with pride. These groups– which tend to contain a disproportionate number of supernatural creatures and beings– commit high-profile acts of public violence with the intent of furthering OWL’s core objectives. In the past, they’ve blown up oil pipelines, stopped development projects, and even infected congregations of people with mutagenic viruses.
OWL denies any involvement with these so-called “OWL-inspired terrorist organizations” (or OITOs for short). However, many people conflate the two and consider OWL itself to be a terrorist organization.
One thing is for certain: when OWL sends a blast to its followers urging protest, they’re taken seriously.

True Alertness
Not really a physical manifestation of a Barrier, but a representation of their spacial awareness and nerves getting to them; allowing them to get 'lucky' in regards to the incoming attacks.

If you succeed, you create a barrier around yourself, which absorbs the next Outcome +2 Damage. The Damage reduction from the barrier is applied before Armor. You may only have 1 active barrier at a time.
The barrier will fall after two hours, or if it absorbs the full amount of Damage. When a barrier falls, you cannot use this Effect again for a minimum of 2 Rounds.
This Effect is not obvious, and the only sign you are using an Effect is Nervous twitching and glancing. If someone suspects that an Effect was used, they must roll Perception + Alertness, Difficulty 8 to pick up on your Tell.
- Effects which circumvent Armor completely also circumvent your barrier.
Glorious Defense

Upon activation Vivians eyes tint a golden hue, as a skin tight invisible barrier forms around her body protecting her from harm.
When one announces her presence and makes herself known to the enemy they naturally become a target even when compared to more dangerous individuals if they are less obvious. As such it is only natural that one who wishes to truly inhabit the role of a Font of Hope must be able to stand tall and be hit. This is the embodiment of the phrase "If you are going to shoot someone, shoot me."
The way Vivian has utilised her powers recently has resulted in harm coming to many. This is not what she wants to do, despite how easy it may seem. No, she must remember why she is here on this earth. So she will stand tall, and shout to the world that "I am here". A second chance to be what she wants to be, a hope for the hopeless.

They're out to get you, so you always need to be ready.
Dominic furiously shouts out the activation phrase Market Crash to his keyboard and it alights, activating several defensive protocols that emerge in the form of a shimmering light blue bubble of force that encapsulates him and the area in his immediate vicinity the barrier crackling and sparking with electricity as the battery unlocks the true potential of lithium. When struck lightning arcs off the barrier as it converts the energy of the attack into a devastating retaliatory bolt ensuring that Dominic is protected from the attack and that his assailant sorely regrets targeting the man who will one day dismantle the Illuminati! Though it does burn the battery out, Dominic needs to be careful about carrying a few replacements. The Deep State loves to strike when you are at your weakest and he couldn't afford to be caught without.

If you succeed, you create a barrier around your target, which absorbs the next Outcome + 6 Damage. The Damage reduction from the barrier is applied before Armor. This Artifact may have up to 3 barriers active at a time.
You must maintain Concentration while using this Effect. The barrier will fall if you are interrupted, or if it absorbs the full amount of Damage. When a barrier falls, you cannot use this Effect again for a minimum of 2 Rounds. As long as it does not fall, the barrier regenerates back to full strength at the end of each Round of combat.
Anyone who touches this Artifact will notice it warping their mind and may drop it. If they choose to hold or use it, they immediately receive the following Trauma: Deep State Agent: Must make a self control roll to trust someone with his life or with details about his real identity.. If they lose possession of this Artifact, the Trauma heals over the course of the next day.
- If you use this Effect as a Reaction to dodge, you still need to make a roll to dodge. The Effect will occur regardless of the Outcome of this roll, but if you fail you will be hit by the relevant attack prior to the Effect occurring.
- You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
