When augmenting herself, Kat alternates between restful meditative poses similar to yoga, and slowly going through a series of motions similar to martial arts katas. A light gray fog spreads down her limbs, trailing her hands and feet as she does these motions.
This focuses her intention and clears her mind until the capability takes shape within her.
As explained by scientists in the alternate universe I have a mental connection to, mine is the same ability that some there have. Apparently I manipulate a unique wave/particle they call a Ficton. This connects me to their reality, giving me visions of their Earth when I focus on it, and also gives me 'super powers' like people there have.

Improving my durability, speed, and hand to hand combat were simple enough. Environmental adaptation wasn't much tougher. I eventually learned to manifest a fog around objects as I put them into or remove them from a non-physical echo of my physical body, using it as limited storage. Most difficult to learn was making my mind manifest a functioning version of physical technology. While I'd like to find something more versatile to mimic than a cell phone, technology in our universe offers isn't as nice as what hero teams there use. If someone here has created a device similar to their communicators, I'd need to examine it and how it functions before mimicking it. Thankfully I don't need to know the inner workings, just the properties and how to use it.
My connection is only between here and that single reality, but each person who does this connects to just one other universe, different for each of them. In the supers universe people have connected to universes that grant them things like fantasy magic, making Steampunk devices function there, etc. Each of us gets something different, but we all get something.

The package Vanessa received at first looked to be a normal pair of gloves. As she put it on though, she could feel something slipping under her skin and into her arms. It was painful and uncomfortable, but it didn't look bad when it finished taking over her. When the pain was gone, the glove seemed to blend in with her skin to the point where she couldn't even pull it off. Her arm definitely felt different though.
Though visually everything looked fine, feeling her arms would reveal that their insides felt much thicker and harder than bones should feel.
