Crafted Artifact

Polamedes Cortical Stacks

Created by Dominic West, given to Polamedes.
A small metal neckplate that lays flat against the back of the neck. At the top of it is a small needle connected to a module that when activated punctures and connects directly to the brainstem.

Not foolproof yet, but the silvery metal implant is placed along the back of the neck and runs up toward the base of the skull. Encoding data constantly from the brain via its connection, the implant is ready at all times to provide all data required to recreate the user. So long as the implant is taken to a suitable computing device, it can process the information and, using Dominic's patented energy into matter technology, create a new body for the subject on the spot. Though it does leave the question unanswered as to whether or not it's the same person or an entirely new person created in the image of the person who came before.

You gain the following benefits as long as you are wearing this Artifact.

If you would take an Injury that would kill you, you don’t die. Instead, you survive in an Incapacitated state, though you appear dead to any means of detecting life. Your body leaves behind a token. You remain incapacitated until the following ritual is performed with the token: A cortical stack chip in the implant located at the base of the skull, and it must be uploaded to a computer wherein you are digitally copied.

While Incapacitated, your only weakness is An electrical shock to the cortical stack, and if you take Damage from it, you will die. Damage from other sources will still be dealt and can cause Battle Scars, but will only kill you if your body is destroyed completely. If your weakness is not immediately obvious, attackers may roll to discover it. After you return, the Injury that would have killed you, as well as any Injuries sustained while Incapacitated, are healed. Battle scars obtained during this time remain.

Trifold Frame

Created and held by Bryan Bosch.
A marvel of artistic ingenuity, providing the function of an impossibly flexible, additional arm. It can be quickly equipped and removed through a series of clasps that attach themselves to the user's torso. The exterior is crafted from a reinforced, tensile layer of carbon fiber resistant to wear and damage. Golden circuitry runs along the surface of the arm, branching into intricate fractal patterns. Its internals consist of a complex suspension system supported by wiring and origami folds in the three primary joints, as well as a series of advanced, technological components. On the back of the hand is a signature written in cursive gold, reading "bb."

After attaching the frame to their torso, the user must activate and sync the arm's internal operative systems with the neurological activity responsible for their own limbs-- requiring extensive input from the mind, voice, and body. The golden circuitry running across the chassis ripple with energy during this process. While in use, its origami folds are able to stretch, bend, and morph to fit the user's desired movements.
The calibration sequence to connect the arm requires the user to move around their joints (shoulders, elbows, and wrists) and read aloud a pangram (ex: "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog").

The systems powering and controlling the arm are an intricate mix of various power sources all synchronizing together. Specifically, they are the culmination of its creator taking influence from his peers, a spatial mage and technomancer, to achieve the final result of a fully functional additional limb.
These include arm's handcrafted, moving folds (of which three are responsible for the core joint movement of a shoulder/elbow/wrist), the golden circuits that connect to the user's mind (branching into a sprawling, fractal pattern across the arm and acting as a signal booster/receiver for all the energy), and the internal technological programming (which are carefully integrated to run with the rest of the arm's systems).
The use of a pangram enables the internal systems to more easily find specific parts of the brain to connect to and the movement of the joints calibrate the arm's motions as well.
The arm's three primary folds, alongside the three sources of power (magic, technology, and clockwork-level crafting), serve as a double entendre inspiring the gift's final name.

Expend a point of Battery and spend two Actions performing the following ritual: activating and calibrating the arms with the user. You must maintain Concentration while activating this Effect, and it fails if you are interrupted.

You gain an additional limb that functions as a standard human arm and hand. Lasts two hours.

Each additional limb you posses can take one Quick Action per Round without incurring a -2 dice penalty to your main Action. Any Battle Scars that affect or remove your additional limb will heal in a single week.

Your appendage is capable of bending and squishing in normally-impossible ways. It may fit through any gap that is not water-tight and retain its functionality.

Your extra appendage can stretch to reach an additional 30 feet.

Your extra appendage is not connected to your nervous or circulatory systems, and you will not take damage if it is hit by an attack or destroyed.

Your Extra Appendage counts as an object and can be hacked or targeted by any Powers that affect objects or machines. Injuries to your Extra Appendage cannot be healed by Powers that affect living things but may be repaired during Downtime.

  • You may stretch or retract your limbs once per Round on your Initiative.

Bu's Provider

Created by Edgar Stokes, given to Bu Fang.
A fleshy, pulsating organ looking for a new home.

These organs are about the size of a fist when created, growing like fleshy tumors inside Edgar Stokes mutated body - when inserted into a Pouch Augment in a living creature, the organ takes root, transforming that Pouch into a liminal space of sorts. The Organ feeds off the nutrients of the host body, & cannot be removed without removing the original Augmentation altogether.

This Artifact can be used as a container. It is roughly the same size as a small, pulsating organ and just as difficult to conceal. Unless it is implanted in a living creature that has the Pouch Augment, this Artifact behaves as its mundane counterpart.

Your small, pulsating organ holds 12 times what it normally could. Objects stored inside are weightless.

Living things can be stored in your small, pulsating organ. They will have access to anything else inside and may attempt to break free, damaging or destroying the small, pulsating organ in the process.

If your small, pulsating organ is destroyed, things inside may get out, and it will cease to function until it is repaired.

This item is a living thing. When targeted, it counts as a Living Creature in addition to its other target types. If destroyed or abandoned for more than two days, it dies and becomes unusable.

  • There is no cost to use your container.

Star-Lifted Scalpel

Created and held by Bev Good.
A shimmering scalpel forged from metal harvested from a star. A proof of concept. Its tip is laced with nano-machines that enhance the edge and provide effect.

The blade of the scalpel gains an ethereal shimmer as it is activated: the nano-machines composing its tip surge into the subject and begin to painlessly (but violently) tear apart and viscerally replace the targeted system and area. It is gruesome and horrific to watch the drawn out thirty-minute transformation of sinew, flesh and bone be made into synthetic counterparts by way of microscopic factories made of biological matter.

…The aftermath is initially disorienting and nauseating - the unnatural feelings of synthetic augmentation can potentially traumatize those afflicted. It may take time and therapeutic assistance in order to overcome these issues.
The nano-machines within are given a command alongside the patient - if the patient breaks protocol, the machines revert the augmentation.

Exert your Mind and spend 30 minutes. Select a Living or Animate target within arm's reach. Your target must make a Trauma roll when you activate this Effect. The target can easily Resist.

You may add one augmentation to your target. Each augmentation counts as a Battle Scar and can have exactly one of the following Effects:

  • Specialized: You receive +2 dice to a particular non-combat Action.
  • Environmental Adaptation: You do not suffer harm from heat, cold, pressure, or lack of oxygen in a particular environment, provided that challenge normally exists in that environment.
  • Implanted Tool: You have access to the functionality of some common Device at all times. The selected Device can be no larger than a motorcycle helmet.
  • Armor: You have 2 Armor at all times. As always, Armor from multiple sources does not stack.
  • Pouch: Part of your body functions as a hidden pocket. It can hold no more than a briefcase (15 liters).
  • Zippy: Your Free Movement is increased by 10 feet.
  • Maws and Claws: Your unarmed attacks do +2 Weapon Damage instead of -1.
You may specify a specific condition that the patient must adhere to. If they break this condition, the treatment is immediately reversed. Record this regimen as a Condition.

The augmentations you provide are not outwardly visible nor obvious.

Anyone who witnesses you during this Effect's activation will almost certainly be disturbed to see Excess flesh (or material) is rapidly excised and cannibalized for mechanical alteratives. Waste not, want not..

  • When narrating disturbing content, be cognizant of your group's tone and accommodating to those who would like to "fast forward" through the description.
  • Remember: A Contractor’s Body rating is reduced by 1 for each Battle Scar after their fourth.
  • You may not augment targets with pouches or implanted devices that are larger than they are.
  • Targets without Body ratings may have a maximum of 4 augmentations.
  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
  • Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

The nanites along the Star-Lifted Scalpel's edge take effect. They adhere and dig into the scalpel's exerted cut, diagnosing the Battle Scar before beginning to resolve it. They dig through the patient's body, clearing out waste and damaged tissues before utilizing them to multiply and grow. Over the course of a minute, the Battle Scar is removed.

The Three R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. The body is filled with waste and inefficiencies: they can be better repurposed to resolve what is broken beyond conventional repair.

Exert your Mind and spend a minute. Select a Living or Animate target within arm's reach. Select a Battle Scar on your target to treat.

The treated Battle Scar heals as you finish activating this Effect.

  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
  • Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

Filler

Created and held by Demitri Vladof.

Filler

Exert your Mind and spend an Action to activate. Select a target within 20 feet which has both fuel and oxygen available (if you are starting a new fire).

You may start a new fire as large as a firepit's fire at your target. You may create fires the size of a lighter or candle flame without Exerting your Mind. Your fires require fuel and oxygen in order to continue burning.

Lighting a target on fire deals 4 Damage per Round, starting in the Round after the one in which they caught fire. This Damage is reduced by Armor, but the target’s Armor rating will be depleted by any Damage dealt, destroying the Armor once it reaches 0.

  • Someone may attempt to extinguish a fire that you started by spending an Action and rolling Dexterity + Athletics, Difficulty 8.
  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.

The Public's Turn Cloak

Created by Leon Vanderblight, given to Bu Fang.
A green and black reinforced biker jacket emblazoned with a white furred nine tailed fox running on the back, each of it's tails detailed with a different colored tip.

An appropriately named jacket, coming in a variety of colors and woven with kevlar fabrics this blend of modern technology and fantastical ability can take you from anywhere to anywhere else you can see. Even through mystical means. Though you do ignite into a multicolored fireball and proceed to have all the skin slough off your bones before turning to ash and then repeating the process in reverse on arrival.

Exert your Mind and spend 2 Actions. Select a Location within your line of sight.

You are transported directly to the chosen Location. Anyone who is touching you as you Travel will be brought along with you. You must wait an hour before activating this effect again.

Anyone who witnesses you during this Effect's activation will almost certainly be disturbed to see The user ignites and burns to dust over the cast time.

  • When narrating disturbing content, be cognizant of your group's tone and accommodating to those who would like to "fast forward" through the description.
  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
  • Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.
